Armadillo World Headquarters, Austin’s Creative Legacy, finds a new stage
Armadillo World Headquarters (AWHQ) existed only from 1970 to 1980, but its impact helped shape the creative culture Austin is known for today. When AWHQ relaunched in 2024 as a purpose-driven brand committed to celebrating Austin’s creative roots, a partnership with the Department of Arts and Entertainment Technologies (AET) felt like a natural fit. The collaboration was an opportunity to connect Austin’s creative roots to the students shaping its next chapter.
Honors AET student uses physical and digital technology to break down accessibility barriers
Advised by Professor Jessie Contour, AET student Ella Gault used her honors thesis to examine how designers can improve accessibility for wheelchair users. What began as a concept for an accessible-spaces app expanded into a broader design guide encompassing both digital and physical environments.
